      What is Virtualization Technology?

Traditional IT setups have a number of weaknesses, particularly as an organisation begins to scale. A virtual setup can therefore be more flexible and cost-effective. Below we explain what is virtualization technology, and how it can benefit your organisation:

The Problems Of Traditional IT Setups

Traditional IT setups with an onsite server have a number of downsides:

      • A big initial cost as you have to buy the hardware.
      • It creates a single point of failure – if the hardware breaks the PC or server will likely be unavailable!
      • Complicated and expensive disaster recovery.
      • Hardware will need to be upgraded or replaced in time which requires further set-up and hardware costs, as well as creating unwanted downtime.

With virtualization, PCs and servers still need hardware to run on but the difference is they reside on a very powerful and very efficient array of virtual servers with lots of protection and redundancy built in.

      What Is Virtualization Technology?

Virtualization is the process of running your IT infrastructure and/or desktops from the cloud.

The difference with the traditional computing model is these virtual desktops and machines do not solely run a server or a computer, they run many more.

It provides what the server/PC platform software thinks is a hardware platform (this is the virtual bit) – because these are virtual platforms it means they are very portable and are not tied to a specific piece of hardware.

So, if there is a hardware or infrastructure problem, the virtual image can be moved to new hardware avoiding downtime.

What Are The Benefits Of Virtualization?

With virtualization technology, a business gets all the benefits of data centre-grade power and flexibility. This means the ability to scale with ease, and high levels of data security and availability.

Services are also delivered more cost-effectively. And of increasing importance, virtual setups typically offer more energy-efficient operations, meaning your company is contributing to imp
