Network Infrastructure & WiFi Deployment For The Moat
The Moat is a long-standing and well-regarded hospitality venue in Kent. It approached Akita to deliver a structured and secure network infrastructure as part of its accommodation expansion project.
Supporting Growth
With new facilities being developed, the client required a future-proof solution that would support stable internet access, secure WiFi connectivity, and ensure separation of guest and business traffic.
Akita was appointed to design and deliver the network environment in two key phases, ensuring resilience, security, and long-term usability.
Network Infrastructure Setup
The initial phase focused on establishing a robust physical foundation for the network. Akita installed a 6U wall-mounted cabinet with lockable access, housing a 24-port CAT6 patch panel and four-way PDU. All cabling was carefully routed and secured, ensuring both durability and compliance with safety standards.
As part of this work, network cables were terminated and tested within the newly constructed accommodation block, including two externally routed black cables. Each was labelled for traceability and tested for continuity and performance. The setup was designed to be ‘Internet-ready’, with physical ports and cabinet access secured to prevent unauthorised interference.
This groundwork ensured that the site was fully prepared for the next stage of deployment once internet connectivity was established.
Switch & Access Point Configuration
Following the availability of internet at the site, Akita returned to install and configure the active network hardware.
A 24-port POE+ switch was deployed, with firmware updated pre-installation and administrative access secured using strong, restricted credentials.
Two Unifi WiFi 6 access points were supplied and mounted to provide fast, modern wireless connectivity. The switch was configured with VLAN support to segment network traffic appropriately between guests, staff, and management users.
WPA3 encryption was enabled across the wireless network to maximise security, and unused SSIDs and admin interfaces were disabled as a precaution.
A full coverage test was conducted to ensure reliable WiFi performance throughout the accommodation block. The guest network was confirmed to be securely isolated from internal systems, supporting both user privacy and the venue’s operational security standards.
All configuration details, including IP schemes, SSID credentials, and switch setup documentation, were securely stored and handed over to the client.
Outcome
The Moat now benefits from a high-quality, secure, and scalable network environment that supports the demands of its growing operations and events schedule.
By phasing the project around infrastructure readiness and live internet access, Akita delivered the solution efficiently and with minimal disruption to the wider site.
As a result, the venue can now offer reliable connectivity for guests while maintaining strong separation and security for internal systems—a vital step in supporting both customer satisfaction and operational resilience.
