Sustainability & CSR
Akita is dedicated to improving its impact on the environment and provide a positive contribution to our local community
As a business, we make key decisions about who we partner with and how we operate based on the aim of achieving the best possible sustainable and corporate social responsibility credentials.
Akita cares about the environment in all its forms and makes sustainability an integral part of company operations wherever possible.
We are committed to minimising the impact of its operations on the environment by means of a programme of continuous improvement. These commitments include to:
- Reduce consumption of materials in all operations, reuse rather than dispose whenever possible, and promote recycling and the use of recycled materials.
- Implement energy and water conservation schemes.
- Design energy efficiency into new services and products, and manage energy wisely in all operations.
- Reduce our levels of harmful emissions.
- Market products and solutions that make efficient use of resources and which can be reused or recycled.
These commitments transfer through to how we conduct our business activities. As an example, our cloud infrastructure is housed within an award-winning sustainable data centre that uses half the power of an average data centre. We are committed to upcycling redundant IT equipment and sustainably disposing of any other waste. We also carefully manage energy consumption within our offices, actively choosing low energy technology solutions. And we are also in the process of replacing our fleet with electric vehicles to reduce our carbon footprint.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Akita is dedicated to delivering a positive impact within the local community.
One of our key achievements is our long-standing apprenticeship program that enables young people to begin their careers in IT. Our apprentices’ study towards an industry-recognised qualification, gaining practical experience and earning a wage at the same time.
Akita’s staff have also raised over £1,200 for local charities this year through various fun days and initiatives. Akita also supports its customers with their charity events and sponsorship.
We’re also committed to the well-being of all of our staff. Healthy lunches are prepared onsite for staff every day. Meanwhile, a weekly fitness session is offered free of charge.
Within the wider Kent community, Akita is a sponsor of Sevenoaks FC’s U9 football squad, promoting youth sport and healthy living. Members of staff are also personally engaged in local charity, youth and social organisations, using their skills to contribute to the community.
